International students can study at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in the following statuses:

• Exchange Student (Erasmus)
• Guest Student
• Regular (degree-earning) Student

Exchange Students

The HUFA has been an active member of the Erasmus network since 1999, and thus hosts a large group of incoming exchange students each year. As per the bilateral agreement between the partner institutions, Erasmus exchange students are not required to pay tuition and can study at the university from one semester to an entire academic year. If you wish to know more information about the Erasmus exchange program and how you can become an exchange student, please contact the international office of your school. Guest Students

To apply as a Guest Student at the HUFA, you must be the student of an institution of higher education in art or have sufficient academic background in the visual arts (more specifically, in the discipline for which you are applying), so that you will be able to join the rigorous academic program in progress at the HUFA. As a Guest Student, you can study at the HUFA for a semester to an academic year and can receive credit points for your work within the ECTS system, which you then may be able to transfer toward earning a degree at your home institution (depending on the specifications of the given institution). Please note, however, that as a Guest Student, you cannot earn a degree from the HUFA – this option is only open to Regular Students (please see below).

In order to apply as a Guest Student you must post the following material to the International Office:

• motivation letter
• a letter from the school that you are attending, attesting to the fact that you are currently enrolled there, or, if you have already graduated from an institution of higher education in art, a copy of the diploma certificate.
• curriculum vitae with passport photo attached
• portfolio, documentation of works (i.e. catalogues, photos, videos, drawings, paintings, etc. – both CDs and printed material accepted)

Application deadlines for Guest Students for the academic year 2016/2017:
Autumn semester/entire academic year: 15 May 2016
Spring semester: 30 October 2016

Semester dates for academic year 2016-17:
Autumn: 12 September – 12 December 2016
Spring: 2 February – 21 May 2017

Language requirements:

If your first language is not English you must be able to prove that your spoken and written command of the language is adequate for the program.
The qualification or test result must have been awarded at the appropriate level. We accept the following certificates:TOEFL iBT (internet-based test) 66

TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) 500
IELTS 5.0
Cambridge English: First Certificate of English (or Advanced)
ECL B2

If you haven’t obtained a certificate from the list above, your ability to use and understand English at the university level is going to be tested.

Guest Student Programme

Regular (degree-earning) students

If you wish to earn a degree at the HUFA, fluency in the Hungarian language is required, and you must go through the same standard entrance examination process as any Hungarian applicant would.

Information about HUFA’s degree programs for Regular Students:

The basic university training comprises 5 academic years (10 terms).

Students may obtain the following degrees:

MA Artist’s diploma (5 years of study):
Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Art/Printmaking, Graphic Design, Intermedia, Conservation

Scenography and Art Theory and Curatorial Studies offer separate BA and MA
tracks (at 3 and 2 years of study, respectively)

Visual education - additional teacher's diploma
Students may start to specialize in teaching secondary-school artistic drawing, art history and projective geometry at the beginning of the 4th academic year.
