Visa and Residence Permit
Visa and Residence Permit
Visa
If you are a citizen of the Schengen Area, you don’t need a Visa/residence permit up to 90 days of stay in an other EU country. With the Erasmus+ scholarship, you spend more than 90 days in Hungary, but as most of the Erasmus+ students interrupt their stay so they don’t spend more than 90 days in Hungary, it’s up to you if you apply for a Visa/residence permit or not.
You can find information about Visa requirements for Students here:

You can find information about the Schengen Area here:

The border-free Schengen Area guarantees free movement to more than 400 million EU citizens, along with non-EU nationals living in the EU or visiting the EU as tourists, exchange students or for business purposes. Free movement of persons enables every EU citizen to travel, work and live in an EU country without special formalities.”

Third-country and EEA nationals
Third-country nationals are obligated to obtain a visa when entering Hungary's territory and for stays lasting up to 90 days within a 180-day period if they originate from a nation subject to visa requirements under the Schengen acquis.
It is advisable to verify whether your country has a bilateral agreement with Hungary, as such agreements obviate the need for a visa.
Visa applications must be submitted to the Hungarian Consulate situated in the applicant's country of permanent or temporary residence, or in the applicant's country of nationality.
Always monitor the expiration date of your residence permit and arrange an appointment to secure a new residence permit card if necessary. Please bear in mind that the application for residence permit extension must be submitted at least 30 days before the expiry date. This step is especially crucial when planning to travel to another Schengen country, ensuring that the validity of your permit aligns with your travel plans.
Please note that from the 1st of January 2023, residence permit applications and extensions can only be submitted online on the following website: https://enterhungary.gov.hu/eh/?hu
