For EU citizens
European Union citizens are guaranteed insurance coverage through the European Health Insurance Card when they are in another member state, granting them social security entitlements and responsibilities equivalent to those of the host member state. The EU card specifically covers essential medical services, while it does not grant authorization for non-urgent or deferred healthcare.
Please have your European Health Insurance Card with you while you are in Hungary. If you have it already, please check the expiry date. An expired card cannot be accepted.

For Stipendium Hungaricum and Diaspora Students
Private Health Insurance
Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship and Diaspora Scholarship holders are eligible for private health insurance up to 65.000 HUF/ year during their studies at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts. The insurance includes health care services in English.
Students have to sign the contract in September.

Hungarian Social Security Number – TAJ
Stipendium Hungaricum and Diaspora Scholarship holders can apply for a Hungarian Social Security Number (TAJ). Having the TAJ number and card, you are eligible for healthcare services in Hungary.
First application:
If you would like to apply to a TAJ number for the first time, you will need the following documents:
- application form ( https://www.neak.gov.hu/nyomtatvanytar/Igenylolap_a_Tarsadalombiztositasi_Azonosito_Jelet_igazolo_Hatosagi_Igazolvany_kiadasahoz )
- order sheet (issued by the university, please contact the coordinator)
- copy of SH/DFP scholarship certificate
- Letter of Award (issued by Tempus Public Foundation)
- copy of residence permit
- copy of accommodation card, stamped by the Immigration Office
- copy of passport
- student status certificate in Hungarian (issued by the Doctoral School or by the Registrar’s office)
TAJ card extension:
If the scholarship holder’s TAJ card expires, they should return it to the Social Security Office and apply for an extension. Please note that you must apply for an extension at least a month before the card expires.
