Walking Box Project

This spring, several students from our university applied to the 'Walking Box' creative container design call, issued by the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (China). The top three applicants—Panna Borsi, Eszter Tolmácsy, and Tímea Triebl—were invited to the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in September to participate in a three-day workshop as guests of the university. During their stay, they had the opportunity to observe the ongoing work at the Art Institute and explore local culture and the landmarks of Chongqing.

The workshop, attended by nearly 40 Chinese students along with students from MKE (Hungarian University of Fine Arts), was led by Artúr Olivér Kovács, a lecturer from the Department of Graphics, and Tekla Uszkay, an exhibition coordinator. The participants worked in five groups. Their task was to develop a concept for an international exhibition based on predefined criteria. Over three days, each group developed a complete project, including content, PR communication plans, visual identity, and a detailed budget.

Yuan Yuan Huang, a student specializing in graphic design at our university, accompanied the team, providing translation and assisting the delegation in navigating everyday life in China.

The students worked with impressive enthusiasm and curiosity, and the workshop concluded with presentations from the working groups. Excellent, well-crafted plans were created, featuring elements such as virtual interior designs for exhibitions, architectural and poster designs, and complementary advertising product concepts.

After the workshop, the two Hungarian colleagues gave a presentation to the leadership and invited professionals, introducing our university and highlighting the teaching activities of the Department of Graphics as well as HUFA’s international relations. The professional program for the Hungarian group also included city tours, museum visits, and other leisure activities.

In early November, the delegation participants will share their experiences from China in a live presentation with photos at the Community Space, aimed at interested students and colleagues. The exact date will be announced later on the website and social platforms.

The collaboration between the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts goes back several years. A group of our lecturers had already made a professional visit to the Sichuan institution in the past. We hope that the cooperation between our universities will continue to provide opportunities for student and faculty exchanges in the future!
