General information
During their undergraduate studies, students enrolled in the sculptor programme will be introduced to the possibilities of sculptural knowledge and expression, the materials used in sculpture, and a variety of traditional and innovative techniques. Uniquely, the department offers a foundation course for all first-year students, aimed at studying the main sculptural trends, techniques and materials in general in a creative context. The curriculum for the upper years is complemented by thematic assignments, exhibition concepts, invitations to guest speakers from Hungary and abroad. The department also offers its own unique annual courses in the history and theory of sculpture, entitled Modern Hungarian Sculpture. In addition, a special course deals with the problem of sculpture in architectural space. Students will have the opportunity to show their work in the exhibition spaces of the Calvary in Epreskert and the Parthenon-Frieze Hall. There are also workshops in plaster, metal, stone and bronze casting, guided by artist-teachers. A few years ago, the Department of Sculpture launched a series of exhibitions of important modern masters of Hungarian sculpture in the representative exhibition space of the university, the Barcsay Hall.
