International regional conference on the understanding, conservation and restoration of modern mosaic heritage

The aim of the SEE Mosaics (Southeast Europe Mosaics) professional meetings is to create, maintain, expand and exchange experiences between mosaic experts, conservators and researchers, and to disseminate the characteristics and cultural significance of mosaic art.

The focus of the previous meetings was on the archaeological mosaic heritage of the region, and this year we will concentrate on the problems related to the mosaics of the modern period. Restoration issues concerning mosaic art after 1900 will be the main focus, such as Art Nouveau, avant-garde, socialist-era mosaics, as well as modern aspirations and contemporary mosaics. Approaches will be based around masters, workshops, techniques, use of materials, modern architectural ideas, collaborations, innovations, damage and conservation challenges.

The event is part of a long-term professional project of the SEE Mosaics Organisation (National Museum of Serbia) in collaboration with the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.

The four-day programme will include 25 lectures, 9 poster presentations, book presentations and professional tours in Budapest and in the countryside, with the participation of experts from 17 countries. The official language of the meeting is English, and the venue for the presentations is the Barcsay Hall of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (1062 Budapest, Andrássy út 69.).

Conference presentations are open to the public and attendance is free, but registration is required. Daily registrations are limited by the capacity of the hall and accepted concerning the order of the arrival.

Registration deadline: midnight 30 September 2024 (CEST)
