This exhibition brings together the work of eight young international artists who arrived in Hungary in 2025. Coming from distinct cultural backgrounds, these young artists are connected by the lived reality of navigating displacement, homesickness, linguistic boundaries, and cultural otherness. Their works powerfully demonstrate that otherness is never merely an abstract socio-political concept; it is a visceral, bodily sensation felt deeply through smell, shifting temperatures, the literal weight of objects, and the friction of language.
Through a diverse range of mediums, the works explore the intersections of the body, memory, and material lineage. Plaster casts record presence through the heavy trace of absence; and weighed everyday objects render personal histories tangible. Alongside sensory elements, e.g. the warmth of spices, surfaces stained with coffee and wine, hybrid language – image combinations, and even absurd imagery, the exhibition grounds cultural identity in the physical, domestic gestures of hospitality and care.
By choosing vulnerability over fear, these international artists focus on a visceral, bodily practice of acceptance using their shared fragility to navigate and soften global and local structures of asymmetrical recognition.
